What to expect from my physiotherapy appointment:
- An initial assessment will last approximately 45-60 minutes and consist of the following:
- A chat around your medical history and your current problem/injury. This will include asking you about your day to day life, work, hobbies, family life etc to give us a clear picture of what may be the cause of your symptoms.
- The physical assessment will include a thorough biomechanical and musculoskeletal assessment to look at where your issues may lie. We may utilise our force plates or dynamometer to explore strength, power and how you interact with the ground and how this may be relevant to your injury. We may involve using the treadmill or Wattbike to look at your walking/running/cycling pattern to see if this could be a contributing factor. We will go through and interpret this data and use it to guide your rehab.
- You may receive some hands on treatment to help with your pain levels and improve your function.
What will the treatment involve?
- The treatment will depend on the type of injury and the severity of your symptoms.
- The sessions will vary between 30, 45 and 60 minutes and involve our physios advising you on how to manage your injury with exercises and modifying your day to day routine.
- It is likely that you will receive some form of hands on treatment to assist with your symptoms.
What do I bring to the sessions?
- If you have any correspondence or letters from any other health professionals these would be very useful to bring, as well as any Ultrasound, X-Ray or MRI results.
- Please bring or wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing to each session.
- Women: Please wear a vest top if possible.
- Feel free to bring children along to the appointment if necessary, we have the space to accommodate and keep them busy!
- If you are coming for a Bike Fit/Cycling Assessment, please remember to bring your bike (ideally clean!) and cycling shoes, as well as lycra cycling clothing if you normally wear this.
- If you are coming for a Gait Analysis/Running Assessment please bring your running shoes, shorts and T-Shirt.
